the first time i saw the new york city skyline, i was listening to this song.

all my life, my mom told me i would never. never be loved, never go anywhere, that my dreams were pointless because i would never achieve them. she went as far as to point out that i had mental problems because i believed said dreams would come true.

listening to this song upon first seeing the skyline, flying down to laguardia, (“go on and try to tear me down, i will be rising from the ground like a skyscraper”), not only made made me feel like i could do anything …

…it was also the ultimate “fuck you”.
